Shield
Blue, orange, and red represent the former units that have formed the present Special Troops Battalion: Signal, Artillery, and Engineers, respectively. Gold is emblematic of excellence and high ideals. The stylized sun and arrowhead highlight the unit's history with the 40th Infantry Division. The bayonet, representing Infantry, underscores the unit's mission of supporting an Infantry Division. The lightning flashes, pointing to the four major directions, refer to communications and quick response to all points of the globe. The forging hammer signifies strength and the forging forward no matter where to build up the Command Post defenses and support.
Crest
The crest is that of the California Army National Guard.
The coat of arms was approved on 3 December 2008. It was amended to correct the blazon of the shield on 28 May 2009.
